Frequently Asked Questions

How does peer-to-peer file transfer work in DocDock?

DocDock uses your local network (Wi-Fi or LAN) to discover nearby devices and transfer files directly. It advertises presence using UDP broadcasts on port 53317 and native Bonjour/mDNS records. When you transfer files, they travel securely directly between your devices using standard HTTP with chunked AES-GCM encrypted payloads. No cloud servers or intermediate databases are involved in your file transfers.

Are my files, scans, or document edits stored on your servers?

No. DocDock operates under an offline-first architecture. All documents, images, scanned pages, signatures, converted files, and audio transcriptions are stored locally in the secure app container on your device. We do not operate any backend server to ingest, collect, or store your private documents.

How do I connect my Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive accounts?

You can link your personal cloud storage accounts by selecting the storage dropdown in the Files tab. Authorization utilizes standard OAuth 2.0 with PKCE. The login occurs directly with the provider (Google, Dropbox, or Microsoft), and the returned OAuth tokens are saved securely on your device's local keychain. These credentials are only used by the app to interact directly with the respective cloud APIs from your device; they are never sent to us or any third party.

How do on-device conversions, PDF OCR, and speech transcribing work?

To protect your privacy, DocDock performs file processing locally. Image-to-PDF compilation, PDF editing, and media trimming run using local code libraries. PDF OCR ("Make searchable") uses local on-device ML Kit text recognition libraries, and audio/video transcription is handled locally using Whisper AI models that run entirely on your device's CPU. Your documents and voice recordings are never sent to external servers for processing.

What tools does DocDock include?

DocDock includes a comprehensive set of offline-first tools: peer-to-peer file transfer, PDF editor with annotations and forms, QR code generator with customization options, audio/video transcription using Whisper AI, file format converter, document scanner, image editor with filters and adjustments, music player with metadata editor, and cloud storage integration (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive). Batch actions for file management (move, copy, rename, delete, compress/extract) are also available. Theme customization with multiple presets is included.

How can I cancel or restore my DocDock Pro subscription?

DocDock Pro subscriptions are securely managed directly by your app store (Apple App Store or Google Play). You can cancel your subscription at any time by going to your App Store account settings > Subscriptions. If you reinstall the app or change devices, you can restore your purchase by tapping the "Restore Purchase" button at the bottom of the paywall screen or within the app's settings page.

How does the Image Editor work?

The Image Editor allows you to crop, rotate, and flip images. You can draw freehand, add text overlays, apply stickers, use filters, blur regions, resize dimensions, and extract colors using an eyedropper tool. All editing is performed locally on your device. Very high-resolution images may require more device memory to process.

How does the Document Scanner work?

The Document Scanner uses your device camera to capture physical documents. You can crop pages automatically or manually, place signatures, and save the result as a PDF. On mobile devices, you can also use OCR to make scanned pages searchable. The scanner has limits of 50 MB on mobile and 200 MB on desktop, with a maximum of 100 pages per scan.

What can I do with the PDF Editor?

The PDF Editor lets you fill forms, annotate pages with text and drawings, add shapes, merge multiple PDFs, split PDFs into separate files, export specific pages, and lock/unlock PDFs with passwords. Search and replace functionality is disabled for files larger than 50 pages. OCR to make scanned pages searchable is available on mobile devices for files up to 50 pages. File size limits are 50 MB on mobile and 250 MB on desktop.

What file formats does the File Converter support?

The File Converter supports conversions between popular image formats (PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP), video formats (MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI), audio formats (MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC), text formats (TXT, Markdown), and spreadsheet formats (CSV). Conversions are performed locally on your device. File size limits are 100 MB on mobile and 500 MB on desktop.

How does the Music Editor work?

The Music Editor allows you to trim audio tracks, adjust playback speed, modify volume, apply fade-in and fade-out effects, and export ringtones (on iOS) or audio files. Metadata editing (title, artist, album, genre, track number, year, artwork) is available on desktop platforms. All processing is done locally on your device.

What can I create with the QR Code Generator?

The QR Code Generator supports creating QR codes for URLs, plain text, email addresses, phone numbers, calendar events, geographic locations, WiFi credentials, and file sharing links. You can customize colors (foreground, background, eye colors), choose between circular or square modules and eyes, add logos, and export in PNG, JPG, or SVG formats at various resolutions.

What are batch actions and how do they work?

Batch actions allow you to perform operations on multiple files at once in the File Store. You can select multiple files and move, copy, rename, or delete them in a single operation. You can also compress selected files into a ZIP archive or extract ZIP archives. The total uncompressed size for compression cannot exceed 2 GB. Batch actions are a Pro feature.

How does theme customization work?

DocDock includes multiple theme presets including ability to make custom app theme. You can choose between light and dark modes and select font styles.

Why does Windows flag the app download as "unrecognized"?

DocDock is an independent, local-first utility. Because the developer builds and distributes the Windows build directly without purchasing an expensive annual corporate developer certificate, Windows SmartScreen may show an "unrecognized app" pop-up on first launch. The app is 100% safe and will run offline on your system. To open the app, simply click "More info" and then click "Run anyway".
